Barnswallow Blooms

Mary Ann Burk’s poetic passion for the magic of growing and gathering flowers stems from a childhood spent picking wildflowers and lily of the valley alongside her mother. A floral designer, grower and potter, Mary Ann also taps into her art background to intertwine custom designs with texture and color. She feels a deep connection to the scented blossoms, mossy twigs and starry nights of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The rhythm of her garden's cycles creates an important link between working with the seasons and what each one offers up for gathering and creating. She honors this connection through what she labels as the “farm-to-event” movement.
 
With decades-long dedication to her cottage garden outside of Charlottesville, Mary Ann and Barnswallow Blooms offer couples unique seasonal flowers with wild touches of ferns and beautiful silhouettes of gathered branches and forged blossoms and greens. Mary Ann likes to add nosegay-inspired sprigs of what is in bloom to her bouquets, knowing that fragrance can bring one back to a special day. Barnswallow Blooms offers nostalgic bouquets tied with hand-dyed natural silks, boutonnieres and wedding crowns, as well as arbors, garlands and swags, with seasonal offerings from the onsite garden and the gardens of other local growers.
