James Monroe’s Highland
The historic residence and property of the fifth U.S. president, James Monroe's Highland sprawls across a peaceful rural landscape, dotted with trails and showcasing elaborate gardens. President and Mrs. Monroe spent more than 40 years at their estate and, in September 1808, their daughter Eliza was married here.
The gorgeously manicured estate offers flexible indoor and outdoor space, an accommodating staff and a deep connection with nature. Couples are invited to transform the grounds to fit their personal theme and style, arranging a dream ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Enjoy privacy and flexibility, stunning views and a natural rustic aesthetic among lush forestry and endless hillsides.
Design an outdoor ceremony on the vibrant Blue Ridge Lawn. Move to the garden for cocktail hour, capturing photos under the mature white oak backed by groves of deciduous trees. When it's time for dinner and dancing, gracefully flow into the covered wood pavilion with exposed ceiling beams or indoors to the climate-controlled banquet hall where large windows welcome natural light and a spacious porch and patio invite guests to watch the stars come to life.
